This re-edition emerged as a project to revitalize both the visual and narrative aspects of a previous version. I was invited by the author, Gina Otálora, to lead the process from an editorial direction standpoint—providing guidance on key decisions related to structure, reading rhythm, visual flow, and the relationship between image and text, without directly intervening in illustration or graphic design. My role was to ensure that each story found its tone, space, and rhythm within the book’s sequence. I proposed narrative and editorial adjustments to shape a reading experience that was fluid and cohesive, while always respecting the expressive essence of the author.
Limón el más llorón / The Weepy Lemon is an illustrated children’s book that brings together a series of micro-stories starring fantastic characters who inhabit a kitchen cupboard. Everyday ingredients and objects become the protagonists of small emotional fables—by turns absurd, tender, and tragic. From a lemon that can’t stop crying to spices facing existential crises, each tale builds an intimate universe filled with humor, sensitivity, and theatricality.
The illustrations, created by the author, have a spontaneous and poetic character, with loose strokes, organic colors, and compositions that evoke a child's symbolic world. The presented mockups reflect how the editorial process carefully balanced silence and saturation, integrating each character's emotions into the page layout. The editorial direction allowed the book to breathe without forcing any story, preserving its nature as a tragicomic anthology.
