El poder de las mujeres rurales (The Power of Rural Women) is an animated short film developed through a research-creation process led by Taller 11 Research Group from the Universidad Pedagógica y Tecnológica de Colombia UPTC(Pedagogical and Technological University of Colombia), in collaboration with rural women from the Boyacá region. In my role as creative director and co-producer, I led the visual conceptualization, narrative direction, coordination of the animation team, sound production, and overall creative management of the project. The piece combines design thinking methodologies, participatory storytelling, and audiovisual sensitivity to amplify the voices of the territory.
The story was built collectively through workshops focused on active listening, participatory mapping, and visual storytelling exercises alongside rural women. Each real-life experience was transformed into symbolic narrative using speculative design dynamics, honoring the community’s rhythms, emotions, and imaginaries. My role was to translate those voices into a visual and sound narrative that was accessible, respectful, and deeply rooted in its origins.

From the art direction, I proposed a warm, intimate, and symbolic visual universe, using frame-by-frame digital animation and organic color palettes to support the emotional flow of the story. I directed and coordinated the animation team to ensure stylistic consistency, aesthetic sensitivity, and narrative rhythm in every scene.
I considered sound as an essential narrative dimension. I directed the recording of the original voices and led the creation of the soundscape and musical composition for the short film, using environmental sounds, organic instruments, and strategic silences to build an intimate and resonant atmosphere that would strengthen the emotional connection to the collective memory being told.
El poder de las mujeres rurales (The Power of Rural Women) was selected in the Media Art category of the 2024 International Image Festival (Festival Internacional de la Imagen 2024), and has been showcased in community and educational spaces as a tool for awareness and empowerment. This project represents my vision as a creative director: to build visual, sound, and emotional narratives that emerge from active listening, genuine co-creation, and deep respect for the communities involved.
