Project Focus:

Background, Layouts and Storyboard Design

Mitomorfosis is a Colombian animated short film directed by Silvia Prieto, founder and creative director of Lucy Animation Studio, currently in production. The film blends traditional 2D animation with a symbolic, expressive, and critical visual style to tell the story of a millionaire's spiritual transformation after losing everything—prompted by an encounter with an Indigenous girl who offers him a new way of seeing life.

I participated during the first half of the production, focusing on the visual development of specific scenes. I was responsible for designing animated layouts, narrative transition backgrounds, and storyboards for two key sequences, working under a well-established art direction and in close collaboration with other studio artists. The project’s visual approach demands a precise integration of visual storytelling, emotional rhythm, and symbolic composition.

Cinematographic storyboard: symbolic transformation

I created the full storyboard for a key sequence in the short film: the moment when the protagonist enters the river and encounters a shamanic entity. This scene required a visual treatment rooted in ritual, mysticism, and emotional intensity. My work focused on narrative composition, shot progression, and the visual planning of special effects such as water, light, and morphing transitions.

Background design (transition locations)

I designed static backgrounds for ambient and transitional scenes. While these are not spaces where characters interact, they play a key role in defining the film’s aesthetic universe—establishing a visual contrast between the artificial urban environment and the organic, symbolic world that emerges later on.

Layout for narrative scenes

I contributed to the design of full layouts for urban and architectural scenes in the short film. This work included the spatial arrangement of characters, objects, and camera paths, as well as the planning of the visual rhythm for each sequence. The goal was to ensure clarity, depth, and graphic coherence with the established art direction.

My contribution took place within a professional workflow, strictly adhering to the established visual style. The approach was always both technical and narrative, supporting the visual direction without intervening in areas such as concept art or character design. This project allowed me to refine my ability to translate complex narrative decisions into clear, functional, and emotionally compelling images.
